The Cake Buying Question to ask

The cake is one of the most memorable things at a wedding and for this reason it is important to get it right. There may be far more to consider than you initially imagined when buying a cake, so to help, here is a guide to steer you through what questions to ask.

Theme
The cake must tie in with the larger scheme of your wedding. How the cake is served often reflects this most. Would you like a grand tiered cake as part of a cutting ceremony with your guests? Or perhaps you would want a smaller cake that can be more subtly shared around at the end of the day?

Flavour
What kind of filling is best? Would you prefer a simple or flamboyant design? Some of the most popular wedding cake flavours are: chocolate, vanilla, carrot and fruit.

The cake designer
Make sure you shop around. Ask whether they work with only specific designs or whether you can customise your own cake. Also check whether the cake-maker will deliver it to your venue and if they will set it up themselves. This will save you a lot of time and hassle.

Experience
Does your have a cake designer have a portfolio? Try and look at previous designs to give you ideas.

Cost
Once you have decided on the cake you like, make sure you discuss with the designer what is within your budget. Usually, but not always, the more you pay, the better quality you’ll get: the only way to find out would be to arrange a taste test if possible. Also remember that if you have consulted a designer to make your cake you will be paying for their time with you, as well as for making the actual cake.

Time
Try and book as far in advance as possible to give the cake makers plenty of time to work on your creation. Most cakes take about 3-5 days to make but this can vary.
